Employee Spotlight of the Week

This week we are celebrating one of our Physical Therapists, Dr. Hannah Carey, PT, DPT, in honor of her birthday!  Many of our readers already know that we are a close-knit team here at Beacon Physical Therapy, and feel fortunate to have among us such a talented group of therapists, and our dedicated staff who make all things possible. We take every opportunity we can to share our community with you!

You’d never know that Hannah is our newest employee, because we truly can’t imagine our clinic without her fantastic presence. We’re lucky that she chose to stay in the Bay Area to join our clinic: Hannah is a graduate of the joint Doctor of Physical Program at University of California, San Francisco and San Francisco State University. Hannah enjoys taking courses through the Institute of Physical Art (IPA) and is training towards becoming a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT) through the IPA. Additionally, she is trained as a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist. Hannah genuinely enjoys meeting her patients where they are at, and collaborating with them to help them to reach their goals.

  1. Hometown: Oklahoma City, OK
  2. Cat or dog person: 80% dog, 20% cat
  3. Favorite meal: I love picking up fresh veggies and meat from the farmers market and grilling on the back porch with friends and family on a summer evening.
  4. What are three things you like to do when you have downtime: I love spending as much time as possible outdoors. I love trail running, mountain biking, walking around SF while listening to podcasts, rock climbing, swimming in natural bodies of water, and tending to my very small garden.
  5. Favorite lesser-known spot/activity in the Bay Area: The Marin Headlands is my little slice of paradise in the Bay Area. After many years of exploring, I am still finding new trails.
  6. Book, music, movie rec: So many good books to choose from! A few recent reads that had a big impact were “Breath” by James Nestor, “An Elegant Defense” by Matt Richtel, and “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker.
  7. Fun fact: In 2021, I ran from the south rim of the Grand Canyon to the north rim then back to the south rim (~47 miles with 11,000 feet elevation gain). I said I would never do it again but now I’m training to repeat it in 2023….
  8. Favorite part of your job: There are many reasons I love working at Beacon! One of my favorite reasons is having brilliant co-workers to learn from and bounce ideas off of. We are constantly learning from each other and collaborating to optimize our patients’ outcomes.

At Beacon Physical Therapy, we support our patients in leading a happy and healthy life and establishing a happy and healthy lifestyle. That includes coming in to see any of our wonderful therapists, including Hannah! She’d love to meet you and get you back to doing what you love!
