Team Movement Highlights

Movement is an essential part of the work that we do here at Beacon PT. Occasionally, we are asked by our patients what exercises we as clinicians do, why we do them, and why we feel they’re important. Read on for movement highlights from our favorite activities, and exercises that help us to not only improve ourselves on a physical and mental level, but also to continue to do what we love!

This week we spotlight our Pilates Master Instructor Erin King!

Name: Erin King

What are your favorite recreational activities, and why?

Swimming, yoga, Pilates, hiking, biking, foraging for herbs, skiing in winter, snorkeling/scuba diving in warm weather.

What are your two favorite exercises (or forms of exercise) that you do right now?

Swimming and Pilates.

Why do you like each one?

I love being in the water, getting into a rhythm doing laps, the feeling of weightlessness and flowing movement. It’s a meditation for me. Pilates is also rhythmic and meditative but mostly it keeps me strong, balanced and nimble.

How have you noticed these activities improve your performance?

Yes, it helps me keep up with my children energetically, physically and mentally.

What keeps you motivated to keep doing this exercise?

It just feels good. I get cranky when I don’t make time for it.

How do you keep yourself accountable to do this exercise?

I want to live and be healthy and happy.

Tell us about an exercise that you don’t love to do, but still do because you know it’s beneficial for you.

Lung-busters, breathing exercises. I’ve had chronic bronchitis and asthma in the past but, (knock wood) not anymore.
